HAHAHA! Lincoln is Radtastic!
So there is this XM station called Cinimagic...It is just that! Cinimagic! I love it, on the ride today we listened to scores from such films as, "Harry Potter", "Star Trek", "Damien:Omen 2", "Donny Darko", etc etc. Its perfect driving music! It makes me want one of them fancy XM radio receiver thingies.
Any way that was just a side note to transition to the most amazingly tampered with signage in the world:

Isn't that AMAZING?!?!?!? It is definitely something I would think of...

So historic Lincoln, NE. SO COOL! I was surprised how hoppin it was too!

This is on the way to downtown from our hotel.

My mom and sissy.

Historic Hay Market district! This is where we ate at Buzzard Billy's or something. CAJUN IS RAGIN IN MY BELLY!!!

CUTE PICTURE HUH?

I miss my vespa! :(

All in all I approve of Lincoln. Well at least this part. It is pretty quiet here and I think it might storm soon, but it was so fun being downtown with all the people and the cool weather was nice. Nebraska is easy like a Sunday morning.

sewing is neat!
I haven't written here in awhile, mainly because it is pointless but since I have no one to speak my thoughts to in person except my dog and cat I thought I would share a new project with invisible internet people. yay!

Yesterday I thought I would sew this apron I'd been meaning to get to for awhile and I finished it in a few hours and thought I'd tend to some of my unfinished sewing projects. My costume from last halloween (Sleepy Hollow dress) was rushed through and not really finished when I posted pictures, so I decided to take another look at it.

I've been watching Sweeney Todd at least once everyday for the past week and decided to take the underskirt to my costume and change it up into a Mrs. Lovett style bustley ruffley skirt! Its almost finished now, just have to put on another ruffle in the front and finish the waistband, this was a really easy skirt and I had some left over fabric from my pirate garb I made last summer!

This was the original pattern I used for the Sleepy Hollow dress. I had to manipulate the bodice a lot. I have another skirt similar to the one here but it is solid black and I think it will do fine to fill in for the one I'm taking to make this skirt.

This has this full underskirt. The back two panels of the skirt are about 34" across so to make the bustle back skirt I just took 4 pieces of fabric between 50 -60 (i was lazy and didn't care about the bottom panels that wouldn't show as much) by 10". I stay stitched the top seam and then scrunched them up to make a ruffle of em and spaced them apart so that the top ruffle covered the top of the next ruffle down. I pinned them and stitched them across starting from the top down. Now Mrs. Lovett's dress has the ruffles sewn into the side seems of the skirt, so the last part was to pin them to the sides and sew the back panels to the front panels making sure to hit each ruffle completely. On a side note, Colleen Atwood's costume looks a little different in the bustle, I think she might have tapered the panels so that the top ruffles aren't as wide as the bottom ruffles, its hard to tell from the movie stills.... I might have to change that....booooooo I hate ripping seams....

anyway so later today it will be finished! and I will post pictures of it! I saw a lot of people wanting to recreate this skirt and I'm telling you it ain't that hard, and you can do it cheap if you take the time and can sew a little.

Long time no post
So here's what's been keepin me a busy since Christmas break. I should have real pictures once the show comes down, but I'm thinkin I'll take pics at the opening Thursday as I plan to dress total lolita for it.... mwah hahahaha look out Floridians. p.s. this be ceramic works except for the watercolor on the far left, aye...

Here's an excerpt from the story I wrote for this body of work:

Mr. Grieves, a fine sea captain from the Southern shores of the Atlantic near St. Augustine, Florida was heading this crew on the S.S. Sirens Song. The ship was to make birth from England and travel South West across the Atlantic stopping in St. Augustine and then continuing up the coast line towards the state of New York. It was on the 13th of March in which the ship met its final destiny when a hurricane befell the waters of the Atlantic and sunk the S.S. Siren's Song to her watery grave. Winnifred, awoke the next day to find herself floating haphazardly along in a dinghy with no paddles or anything else for that matter except one thing, her dearly beloved stuffed rabbit, Mr. Floppington.

For the show I also learned to bind books, and made a little book from some old cloth, its on the chair, and wrote part of my story in it.
I am just about done in Florida! YAY! Thank the Gods cause I am tired of this place fo show! Its pretty and ugly at the same time which is confusing....and its sweaty. So maybe its ok to visit if your going to see Mickey.

weekend warrior..not really
so this last week has been HELL! I am fighting to stay in my apartment, while trying to look for a roommate/new apartment, but realizing I don't have enough money to move if I have to pay to break my lease to avoid eviction and starting kickboxing with the sorest calves ever and trying to retain my insanity while realizing I haven't even begun my final project which has to be fired by Thanksgiving. Meanwhile EVERYTHING at school is happening in the next two weeks...and worst of all I missed the last day of Night of the Living Dead live on stage!! BOOOO! But here are some fun things I did this weekend that made me feel sane again, and its back to work as usual!
Friday afternoon the crew went to mexican (always a plus)

so Friday there were TWO gallery openings with FOOD! free dinner.

the second show was at this cool old theatre turned bar called the Atlantic.

they showed a Russian vamp movie called Night Watcher on a big screen over the bar...very interesting movie.

the bar has cool decor..

we played a game where you had to guess who a person was by asking them questions where the answers are people whos last names start with the same letter as the person you are trying to guess who they are's last name. if the person can't answer your trivia question you can ask them a yes or no question to gain clues as to their identity. Tommy said I am C and we had to ask questions like "do you play saxaphone?" and he said no I am not Bill Clinton. etc. twas fun, and took forever to guess hew was Cortez, i felt stupid...

Sunday morning we all got together and had potluck breakfast...delicious

I told Cassie to pose as Martha Stuart.
off to the studio! Oh yeah and this Thursday Tom Bartel is coming to do a demo in class all day and I got chosen as one of the top five to have my work critiqued by him! I'm so excited (and nervous) heres some of his work...

his work is Burtonesque to me. I like his amazing glazes!

BBQ Time!! Florida Autumn is like California Summer.....still
So tonight the ceramics crew (and one print grad) decided to have what's called in the South a "cook out" or what we call on the West Coast a BBQ. Apparently BBQ is only used for things with sauce on it not for the actual grill or the event of cooking on a grill. who knew? any way here are pics!

the cook out was held at Alyssa, Cassie, and Amanda's house only a couple blocks from me!

Alyssa! From Minnesota

Cassie! from West Virginia

Amanda!

I brought Angel! She chased lizards. Then she met Alyssa's dog Sooki....

Sooki was perpetually grumpy looking all night

Cassie's cat Dippy didn't like Angel too much either...

TJ I don't know what he's doing in this picture but it looks gross...He's from Iowa somewhere in the middle...

Beau was saying this grill is not acceptable he's from Louisiana

PAT! from New York he brought the corn!

Then there was Meghan! Meghan knows what it means to take a picture! yay for Bostonians

Corey arrived later....she's from Florida

Tommy! another Floridian...lookin a little like Dan Akroyd which he says hes heard a lot before...

More people showed up later from the ceramics studio....Then the party really started....S'mores were grilled.

HULA HOOPING!!!!!!

I love Magda's expression....

Cassie was a total pro....

Candy Corn tricks ensued...

and an endless game of Apples to Apples....SO FREAKIN FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately E.T. was on in the background and anyone who knows me knows I can't stand to look at E.T. so creepy ugly! The question was asked, "does E.T. smell funny, and do you think he smells worse when his neck is stretched out?" ~Beau

My results, supposedly when the game is done the cards you win describe your personality....easy, magical, frazzled, bold, swift, brilliant...Yeah its pretty accurate

It was a much needed night out with people and I had lots o fun. I highly recommend Apples to Apples and hula hooping at your next social gathering.

Halloween!!!!!
today I started my halloween costume! I am attempting to recreate a similar but not exact version of Katrina Van Tassel's New York arrival dress from Sleepy Hollow. see pic below. :)

so today I looked for fabric (part 2) cause the fabric I originally bought was too narrow and for a different dress style all together actually. However the striped fabric they had that was similar to the original dress was too wide of stripes something like an inch and a half which to me seemed silly looking. anywho I found this calico print that I really liked it has pink roses in between the stripes. I worked on the bodice and trim today. here are the results thus far!

i'm going to wear this dress over a stay so i don't have to do boning with this lighter weight fabric hence the cleavage! ooh la la!

I couldn't find the fabric online but if you can imaging the flowers are so small you can barely see them against the high contrast of the stripes. hopefully week after next I will be able to work on the skirts! ahhh!

arrived!
so we left Mobile Alabama and headed out for Florida!

Here we are!!!

a funny ad.

at a rest stop outside Tallahasee! oh yeah.

every fast food restraunt boasts its chicken fingers or fried chicken sandwiches or chicken and biscuits or anything fried chicken. its funny they all sell the same things but they all stay in business. I swooned over these shake options. :)

I arrived in Gainesville and saw my future....

my new hang out I can tell! Delightful vegan treats I feel healthy just sitting in there! and they have the best iced coffee with soy so far!

its also a used bookstore

My apartment is just a few blocks up the street from Book Lover's Cafe and Mother Earth Market!

To Campus! Huzzah!

theres designated graffitti spots throughout Gainesville, which is cool because there isn't any on the beautiful buildings! This is a tunnel that goes under the street so you can go across campus. Whats even cooler is there are bikes allowed everywhere on campus!!

more to come as I explore the school. It is pretty on campus and there are natural ponds all throughout. Not to mention the awesome things to go do. I'll post pictures of my finished apartment and new bike I got down the street at a used bike store!
